President of Gbenga Akinwande Foundation, Engr Gbenga Akinwande, has suggested that Yewaland needs a new strategic approach for development.
Akinwande, in a letter to the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Olugbenle, stated: “I am compelled to write Your Majesty as a stakeholder, committed to the socio-economic growth and development of our fatherland, Yewa.
“The series of events in the last few years, particularly the security challenges in Yewaland arising mostly from herdsmen attacks, which has also created serious economic downturn for our people and communities as a whole has become worrisome. It has become imperative for the Yewa Council of Obas to take some proactive measures to protect our communities from further attacks from these foreign herdsmen”.
Akinwande noted the current affairs of things in Yewaland were disturbing and leadership of the Paramount ruler was required.
He said the situation of things in Yewaland in few years to come might be worse off than what obtains in some northwestern states.
Akinwande said: “There is urgent need to constitute a 7-man panel of traditional rulers from Yewaland to meet President Muhammadu Buhari to solicit his help against the endless foreign herdsmen attacks, the constant killing of innocent people by security forces in Yewa communities and total neglect of Ogun West in both political appointments and infrastructural development by both the state and federal government”.
He also suggested the panel should prepare a list of projects that can be cited in Yewaland based on proximity to the ECOWAS markets.
One good example of such projects, according to him, is the abandoned General Murtala Mohammed cargo airport at Tobolo/Aworo forest in Imeko/Afon LGA.
